Whozu, a Tanzanian artist, has been banned by the National Arts Council (BASATA) following the release of his controversial video for the “Ameyatimba Remix,” which also features Billnass and Mbosso.
BASATA ordered the removal of the video due to content that allegedly violated ethical standards, including offensive language and scenes that depicted violence against women.
The video content was said to contravene specific regulations regarding the dignity of women. As a result of this incident, Whozu has been fined three million Tanzanian Shillings and suspended from engaging in artistic activities for six months starting November 4, 2023.
Billnass and Mbosso, along with Whozu, have also faced penalties from BASATA. They have been fined three million Tanzanian Shillings each and received a suspension from participating in any artistic activities for three months, starting from November 4, 2023.
This action was taken in response to their involvement with the “Ameyatimba Remix” video, which was found to be in violation of ethical standards set by BASATA.
